BlackWidow – Batch Download Files Off the Web
Review by on
If you want to download files off the web, there are two ways you can go about it. You can do it the old fashion way, and manually download files by right clicking and choosing “Save As”. That will get the job done, but only if you want to download a very small number of files. When you want to download a bunch of files, the second way of downloading files off the web comes in – turn to software.

There are specialized applications out there that allow you to easily download multiple files at once off the web. Such an application is the SoftByte Labs-developed BlackWidow (cool name by the way). This application allows you to batch download all sorts of files off the web: video, audio, pictures, documents, and so on.

To better put things in perspective, here is the sort of functionality you can expect to get from the BlackWidow:
- Preview a site’s directory and file structure before deciding what you want to download
- The application has an Explorer-like interface that is quite easy to use
- BlackWidow can download files from password protected sites
- Download videos from sites like YouTube and MySpace.
- BlackWidow will scan a site and create a complete profile of the site’s structure, files, external links and even link errors.
- BlackWidow comes with a built-in browser. You can use this browser to navigate to whatever site you want.
- Takes a screenshot of the currently displayed image.

Before you go get BlackWidow and put it to the test, take a look at the technical details presented below:
Download – the download weighs in at some 2.9MB, which means it should not take long for the download to complete (even if you are on a less than spectacular internet connection).
Installation – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, BlackWidow provides support for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7(32-bit and 64-bit editions).
Limitations – you can use the trial version of BlackWidow free of charge for a period of 30 days. The trial version is fully functional.

BlackWidow is an easy to use, useful internet download manager and webmaster tool.

Pros
  • Lightweight download
  • Easy to use
  • Explorer-like interface
  • Batch download files from the web
  • Works with Windows 7

Cons
  • Free to try (30-day trial)
